The VCU Rams men’s track and field team finished in third place at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, according to a May 3 announcement. The meet was held at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia.
The Rams earned four gold medals and three silver medals during the competition, securing their spot behind Rhode Island and George Mason in the team standings. This performance highlights strong individual achievements across several events.
Freshman Presten Augustin set a personal best to win gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.49 seconds and also took silver in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.02 seconds. Augustin was named A-10 Rookie of the Year for his efforts. Jordan Davis won gold in the 100-meter dash by just one hundredth of a second over Davidson’s Sineth Andrabadu, finishing with a time of 10.60 seconds.
In relay events, the Rams’ team of Coleman Hallums, Jude Okafor, Lopez Lumaine, and Davis placed fifth in the 4×100 meters with a time of 41.30 seconds. The distance squad saw Jonathan Hess claim silver in the 800 meters after setting a personal record during preliminaries.
Field event standouts included Philip Daniel earning silver in triple jump with a mark of 15.64 meters while also setting a personal record in long jump at sixth place. Shinobu Hawk won gold in discus throw with his best-ever throw of 52.48 meters, while freshman Adham Saleh captured hammer throw gold with his own personal-best mark that ranks third all-time for VCU.
This championship marks the end of season for most athletes on the roster; however, select individuals will continue their campaigns at NCAA East Preliminary Round from May 27 through May 30.
