VCU lost to Davidson 10-5 in the Betterment Atlantic 10 Championship game on May 3, after holding a halftime lead. The match took place in Davidson, North Carolina, with VCU finishing its season at 13 wins and five losses while Davidson improved to 15 wins and four losses.

The game marked VCU’s first appearance in the A-10 Championship final. The Rams’ performance this season set a new program record for most wins. Despite leading by three goals at halftime, VCU was unable to stop a strong second-half rally from the Wildcats.

VCU started strong with Epperly scoring first for the Rams, giving them an early lead. Unzicker converted a free position shot late in the first quarter to put VCU ahead at the break. Koeneke’s goal just before halftime extended their advantage to three goals.

However, Davidson responded with eight unanswered goals in the second half led by Brooke Ross who scored three times for the Wildcats. The final statistics showed that while VCU outshot Davidson overall (24-22), Davidson had more shots on goal (14-10) and led draw controls (11-6).

Koeneke, Palmer and Doyen were named to the A-10 All-Championship Team for their efforts during the tournament.
