VCU baseball completed a series sweep of Saint Louis with a 10-7 victory at The Diamond on May 3. The Rams improved their record to 26-21 overall and 15-9 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, tying for second place in the league standings.
The sweep is significant as it marks VCU’s fourth conference sweep of the season, matching its highest total since joining the Atlantic 10. The team also tied its most A-10 wins in a season since 2022.
Zach Peters earned his fourth win of the year and reached a team-leading total of 66 strikeouts, tying Patrick Steitz. Peters, along with Everett Vaughan and Cooper Campbell, combined for thirteen strikeouts—the most by VCU pitchers in a single game since opening weekend. Eight out of nine starters reached base during the game, with four players reaching safely three times each. Trent Adelman and Nate Kirkpatrick led the offense with three hits apiece.
Saint Louis started strong by building a six-run lead through two innings before VCU responded by scoring two runs in each of the next three frames to tie it up at six runs apiece. After Saint Louis regained a one-run advantage in the sixth inning, VCU answered immediately with four runs in their half of that frame to take control for good. Alec Warden scored on Dante DeFranco’s single to tie it up again before Michael Petite walked to load the bases for Jacob Lee’s go-ahead walk and Nick Flores’ two-run single.
Peters allowed only two baserunners over the final three innings as he secured VCU’s win and finished off their sweep against Saint Louis.
Looking ahead, VCU will play its next four games on the road: first against Norfolk State on Tuesday, May 5, followed by an Atlantic 10 series at league-leading Saint Joseph’s from Friday through Sunday (May 8–10). All upcoming contests are scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
