VCU defeated St. Bonaventure 18-11 in Davidson, North Carolina on May 1 to secure a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship game for the first time since the program began in 2016.

This marks a significant milestone for VCU’s women’s lacrosse team, as it is their first appearance in the championship game after reaching the semifinals for only the second time last season.

The Rams started strong with an early eight-goal run and maintained their lead throughout the match. VCU committed just five turnovers compared to St. Bonaventure’s twelve and went six-for-eight on free position attempts. Despite being tied at 26 shots each and trailing in draw controls, VCU managed to keep at least a six-goal advantage during the entire second half. Brooke Piper led St. Bonaventure with four goals.

Palmer opened scoring midway through the first quarter, sparking VCU’s dominant start. The Rams continued to answer every rally attempt by St. Bonaventure, including three consecutive goals that extended their lead early in the fourth quarter.

VCU will now face No. 4 seed Davidson, who is also hosting this year’s championship site, on Sunday, May 3 at noon. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
