Restoration News has reported that University of Virginia (UVA) Law students are organizing an “Antifa tailgate” event, which includes the burning of the American flag and extends a specific invitation to Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) officers. This announcement was made on the social media platform X.

According to posts circulating on X, a UVA Law student group is planning the “Antifa tailgate,” explicitly inviting Army JAG officers. The event is advertised with a flyer promoting burgers, beverages, camaraderie, and “flag burning,” along with details about the time and campus parking-lot location before a volleyball game. Restoration News amplified this information through a thread by commentator Greg Price, who described the event as scheduled for the following day and characterized it as an “Antifa tailgate.”

On September 22, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. The order cites political violence intended to “suppress lawful political activity and obstruct the rule of law.” It claims that Antifa seeks to overthrow the U.S. government using “illegal means,” which Republicans argue justifies increased scrutiny of campus-linked events branded as Antifa.

Flag burning has been recognized as protected expressive conduct under the First Amendment since the Supreme Court’s decision in Texas v. Johnson (1989), later reaffirmed in United States v. Eichman (1990). While legal, such demonstrations often require security measures and provoke political opposition; critics from right-leaning circles contend that this practice disrespects national service members and invites disorder, particularly when associated with groups labeled extremist by federal executive action.
