Throughout July, construction activities will continue at the I-495 and Dulles Corridor Interchange as part of the 495 NEXT project. This work will necessitate both daytime and nighttime lane and ramp closures, including detours. Weather permitting, these activities are scheduled from Monday to Friday until August 1.
Starting Monday, July 14, several closures are planned:
– The ramp from southbound I-495 to eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Exit 45B) will be closed nightly for bridge work.
– A single right lane closure is scheduled on eastbound Dulles Toll Road between Exit 18B and Route 123 nightly for bridge work.
– Daytime cabling work will result in a single right lane or shoulder closure on eastbound Dulles Toll Road between Spring Hill Road and Exit 18A.
– Concrete barrier work will close a single left lane on the exit ramp from eastbound Dulles Toll Road to southbound I-495 (Exit 18A) during the day.
– Nighttime triple lane closures are expected on eastbound Dulles Toll Road at the exit ramp to southbound I-495 for various works.
Further work may begin as early as Monday, July 21:
– Daytime single lane closures for concrete work are planned on ramps from eastbound Dulles Toll Road and Airport Access Highway to northbound 495 Express Lanes.
– Nighttime single lane closures are scheduled on ramps from eastbound routes to northbound I-495.
Crews aim to construct new express lanes access ramps linking the Dulles Corridor with future extended express lanes. Key milestones include reopening a fourth lane near Exit 45 by late summer and extending the existing express lanes by late this year. The entire project is anticipated to conclude by mid-2026.
