Virginia attackman Truitt Sunderland was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for games played April 20-26, according to an April 28 announcement from the league office.
The recognition follows Sunderland’s career-high performance, where he recorded four goals and six assists in Virginia’s win over Drexel. This marks his second time earning this honor during the season, with his previous selection on March 24.
Sunderland’s ten points against Drexel were achieved in just three quarters before reserves entered for Virginia. His total was also the highest by any ACC player last week. With this achievement, he joins teammate Brendan Millon as one of only two players in the conference to register a ten-point game this season.
In addition to his conference honor, Sunderland and Virginia defenseman John Schroter were selected for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s Team of the Week. The Cavaliers are preparing for their upcoming semifinal match against Notre Dame on May 1 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team seeks its twentieth ACC championship and first since sharing the regular-season title with Notre Dame in 2022.
Notre Dame enters Friday’s matchup ranked No. 1 nationally in recent coaches’ polls. Virginia secured its spot as No. 4 seed due to tiebreaker procedures after tying with North Carolina and Syracuse for second place in conference standings.
