The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that a section of Route 644, known as Rock Hill Church Road, will be closed at Aquia Creek in Stafford County. The closure will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, and is expected to continue through the morning of Monday, December 22. This measure is being taken to allow for the removal of several trees.

According to VDOT, the tree removal is necessary to prepare for the upcoming Rock Hill Church Road bridge replacement project. Construction on this bridge replacement is scheduled to start in summer 2026.

During the closure period, through traffic will not be permitted between Dunbar Drive and Van Horn Lane on Rock Hill Church Road. Motorists will be directed to follow a detour route using Garrisonville Road (Route 610), Joshua Road (Route 643), Mountain View Road (Route 627), and back onto Rock Hill Church Road (Route 644).

VDOT data from its most recent traffic count in 2024 shows that approximately 1,600 vehicles travel daily along this segment of Rock Hill Church Road.
