A new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 11 (Valley Pike) and Route 873 (Renaissance Drive) in Frederick County has been activated in flash mode as of June 18. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that the signal, situated between Winchester and Stephens City, is set to become fully operational on June 25. Motorists are advised to be cautious of the changes in traffic control and potential delays at this location.
The signal was constructed by VDOT several years ago and is now being activated following the completion of Renaissance Drive, which connects Route 11 to Route 651 (Shady Elm Road). This extension project, overseen by Frederick County, received partial funding from VDOT’s Revenue Sharing program. Additionally, a nearby railroad crossing on Route 649 (Springdale Road) will be closed, likely increasing traffic on Renaissance Drive.
VDOT notes that all work is contingent upon weather conditions, and schedules may change accordingly.
For real-time traffic updates and traveler information, individuals can call 511 or visit VDOT’s website.
