Overnight on Monday, November 24, eastbound traffic on Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) in Albemarle County will be redirected onto the newly built north side of the bridge over U.S. 29/250. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that this shift is a significant step in the ongoing bridge replacement project.

The completion of the north side allows crews to start construction on the south side of the bridge. VDOT urges drivers to remain attentive for updated signs, new traffic controls, and construction workers or equipment near travel lanes.

The project includes replacing the current bridge with a new deck and beams while rehabilitating its piers. Construction is expected to conclude by July 2026.

VDOT provides additional information about this project at vdot.virginia.gov/projects/culpeper-district/route-601-old-ivy-road-albemarle-county.

For regional updates from VDOT’s Culpeper District, information is shared on social media via X and Facebook group pages. Statewide traffic conditions can be accessed through the 511 Virginia website, as well as through VDOT’s free mobile app or by calling 511 within Virginia.
