The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a new phase of construction at the eastern intersection of U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail) and Route 20 (Constitution Highway) in Orange County overnight on Thursday, August 28. The work involves converting traffic to a new roundabout configuration.
According to VDOT, contract crews will be completing pavement, installing signage, and placing temporary pavement markings during overnight hours. Flagging crews will be present at the intersection to help direct drivers as they adjust to the new traffic pattern.
“Message signs are in place to alert motorists to the upcoming change. The signs will remain for seven days following the traffic switch. Drivers should reduce speed, use caution, and follow signage when traveling through the new roundabout,” stated VDOT.
This construction is part of a $5.5 million project aimed at reconstructing the intersection into a single-lane roundabout designed to improve safety and manage traffic flow more efficiently. Construction is scheduled for completion by December 5, 2025, though all activities are subject to weather conditions.
