All lanes of Interstate 95 in Fredericksburg have been closed due to downed utility lines. The closure affects both northbound and southbound traffic near exit 130. Officials anticipate the closure will be extended, advising travelers to avoid the area.

Detours are set at exit 140 in Stafford County and exit 126 in Spotsylvania County. Travelers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Route 301 or Route 29 to bypass the congestion.

Traffic is being redirected to Route 1 in Fredericksburg, with southbound traffic detoured at Courthouse Road and northbound traffic at Spotsylvania. Traffic signal timing adjustments along Route 1 aim to manage increased flow, though significant delays are expected throughout the region.

Congestion currently extends from south of Centreport Parkway in Stafford to north of Thornburg in Spotsylvania. Travelers should expect ongoing travel delays on I-95, Route 1, and connecting routes until the situation is resolved.

Updates regarding traffic conditions can be accessed via 511Virginia at 511.vdot.virginia.gov.

“All lanes of Interstate 95 northbound and southbound have reopened at exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg). Detours at exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County and exit 126 (Spotsylvania) in Spotsylvania County are being lifted.”

“Expect major travel delays to continue on I-95, Route 1 and connecting routes as congestion clears in the Fredericksburg area.”
