Beginning in mid-July, drivers traveling on Route 58 over Lovers Leap Mountain in Patrick County should anticipate changes in traffic patterns due to an ongoing road widening project. Weather permitting, starting July 9, a new 1.25-mile section of roadway will be opened, beginning half a mile east of Route 640 (Central Academy Road). Two-way traffic will be directed onto the newly constructed eastbound lanes. Additionally, a new connection between Route 8 and Route 58 will open just west of the current intersection.

The week of July 14 will see further changes as traffic is shifted onto another new 1.5-mile section of Route 58 at the western end of the project near Poor Farmers Farm. Again, two-way traffic will use the newly constructed eastbound lanes. A connection between these new lanes and existing Route 58 will ensure continued access to Poor Farmers Farm, Fred Clifton Park, and the Lovers Leap Overlook.

Motorists are advised to pay attention to signs and watch for new traffic patterns. Electronic message boards will be installed to alert drivers about these upcoming changes.
