Travelers on Route 30 may face brief delays next week as the Eltham Bridge, connecting the Town of West Point and New Kent County, undergoes a routine inspection. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the inspection will involve test openings of the drawbridge, which will take place over two nights.
The first series of openings is planned from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, until 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7. The second series will occur from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, until 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 8. During these times, traffic between West Point and New Kent County will be halted for several 15-minute intervals to allow the inspections to proceed, after which vehicles will be allowed to pass until the next closure.
The inspection schedule is contingent upon weather conditions, according to the announcement.
