The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a new schedule for the temporary traffic signals on the Route 42 bridge over the Buckingham Branch Railroad. This bridge, located just northwest of Morgan Drive in the Nicelytown area of Alleghany County, is 1.5 miles north of Interstate 64 exit 29.
Starting on Tuesday, May 6, traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the bridge due to maintenance and paving work. Northbound and southbound traffic will alternate using a temporary traffic signal, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Wide-load tractor trailers will not be permitted to cross during the work, which is expected to conclude by Labor Day, September 1, 2025. The schedule is subject to weather conditions.
