Traffic disruptions planned in Lynchburg District from May 19-25

Highway work is scheduled in the Lynchburg District from May 19 to May 25, 2025. The planned activities may involve road, lane, or structure closures but could be postponed or canceled due to weather conditions or other unforeseen issues. For the latest updates, residents are advised to call 511 or visit the website https://511.vdot.virginia.gov.

Throughout the district, crews will undertake various maintenance tasks such as bridge and guardrail upkeep, brush and tree cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatment and paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.

In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Rd.) will remain closed for bridge rehabilitation between Guinea Road and River Road until late June 2025.

In Lynchburg, starting May 18, Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) will undergo bridge rehabilitation over the Norfolk Southern Railroad with alternating lane closures expected until July 1, 2025.

Nelson County’s Route 653 (Wilson Road) is closed for a bridge replacement over the Norfolk Southern Railroad with an estimated reopening in November 2025.

In Pittsylvania County, Route 813 (Glenview Drive) is closed for bridge repairs between Elm Road and Strawberry Road from May 12 to June 1. Additionally, new road construction on Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway) continues with shoulder and lane closures expected until its overall completion on June 16, 2025.

District-wide activities mentioned above apply to Amherst County, Appomattox County, Buckingham County, Campbell County, Charlotte County, Halifax County as well as other locations within these counties.
