The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will start a traffic detour on Wednesday, July 23, as part of the construction work for a roundabout in Crozet. The project involves the intersection of Route 240 (Crozet Avenue), Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike), and Route 680 (Browns Gap Turnpike) in Albemarle County.
The detour is expected to last until December 2025, depending on weather conditions. During this period, a section of Route 680 north of Route 240 will be closed to through traffic. Passenger vehicles heading north can continue west on Route 240 and turn right onto Route 802 (Old Three Notched Road). Southbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse.
Trucks and commercial vehicles have a different detour route. They should continue west on Route 240 to reach Route 810 (Crozet Ave/White Hall Road), which connects back to Route 680. Southbound commercial traffic will follow this path in reverse.
For more details about the project, VDOT directs residents to their website. Updates specific to VDOT’s Culpeper District are available on X.com/VaDOTCulp and their Facebook page.
Information about current traffic conditions, VDOT’s statewide network of traffic cameras, and other travel-related data can be accessed via the 511Virginia website, the free VDOT mobile app, or by calling 511 within Virginia.
VDOT’s Culpeper District covers several counties including Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock. The city of Charlottesville maintains its own roads independently.
