Highway work in Lynchburg, Virginia is scheduled for the week of April 21-27, 2025. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) indicates that road, lane, and structure closures are on the agenda, though weather and other factors could cause delays or cancellations. For the latest information, residents are encouraged to call 511 or visit VDOT’s website.

District-wide activities entail various maintenance and repair tasks, including bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush cutting, pothole repairs, paving, mowing, drainage work, and roadside cleanup.

In Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, and Charlotte Counties, district-wide activities are planned without any unique updates.

Cumberland County will experience a bridge rehabilitation on Route 673 (Ligontown Road), which remains closed between Guinea Road and River Road. The work is projected to finish in mid-May 2025.

In Lynchburg, bridge maintenance on Route 501 (Campbell Avenue) over the Route 29/460 Bypass is reducing traffic to one lane with the left lane closed for northbound traffic. This work began the week of April 14, 2025, and is projected to complete by the end of April. Further, Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) will see bridge rehabilitation starting May 18, 2025, with lane closures anticipated until July 1, 2025.

Nelson County faces a bridge replacement on Route 653 (Wilson Road) over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The bridge is closed, and it’s expected to reopen by November 2025.

Pittsylvania County’s Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway) has opened to traffic, but new road construction continues off the roadway. Occasional shoulder and lane closures may occur, with overall project completion set for June 16, 2025.
