The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released its schedule for highway work in the Staunton District from February 24 to 28, 2025. The district includes 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke, and Warren.
VDOT warns that scheduled work may change due to weather or material availability. Drivers should be cautious of slow-moving tractors during mowing operations and be alert to changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.
In Alleghany County on Interstate 64 westbound from mile marker 41 to 0, mobile right shoulder closures are planned for tree trimming operations between Monday and Friday. On primary roads like Route 60 Business in Clifton Forge, alternating lane closures will occur for bridge inspections and utility work.
In Bath County on Route 39 (Mountain Valley Road), flagger traffic control is set for rock and soil testing. Similar flagger controls will take place across various roads for shoulder repairs and pipe cleaning.
Rockbridge County will see overnight lane closures on Interstate 64 eastbound between mile markers 43 to 48 for traffic sensor installation. Interstate 81 southbound will have mobile lane closures at several exits for rock and soil testing.
Augusta County’s Interstate 64 will have overnight single-lane closures eastbound and westbound from mile marker 95 to 98 due to bridge painting activities. Meanwhile, significant construction continues on I-81 with various lane closures related to bridge replacement projects.
In Rockingham County at Exit 240 of I-81 northbound and southbound ramps, shoulder closures are scheduled through July as part of a turn lane construction project. Route 33 also faces multiple disruptions due to road widening efforts.
Page County’s Business Route 211 in Luray will experience shoulder closures for utility work starting March 1 through April.
Shenandoah County’s Interstate section near mile markers 286 to 287 will have overnight right lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspections over Swartz Road.
Frederick County drivers should expect sign installations causing shoulder closures along I-81 between mile markers 302 to around the county line with Clarke County until late March.
Warren County’s I-66 westbound near mile marker one is scheduled for similar sign-related shoulder work through March as well.
