The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled traffic closures for the Hampton Roads District from March 16 to March 22, 2025. These closures will affect several interstates, ramps, bridges, and tunnels in the area.

On I-64 at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, there will be alternating single-lane closures westbound on March 17-18 and eastbound on March 19-20 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 will have mobile, alternating single-lane closures northbound on March 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For those traveling southbound on Route 17 at the James River Bridge, expect single-lane closures from March 18-21 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Maintenance schedules for the Elizabeth River Tunnels can be found by visiting their website.

In James City County, I-64’s Gap Segment C Widening project will result in various lane and ramp closures from March 16-22. There will also be full closure of I-64 west on-and off-ramps at Old Stage Road during this period.

Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) projects will impact traffic flow with multiple off-ramp and lane closures across different segments of I-64 in Hampton, Norfolk, Newport News/Hampton, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach areas throughout the week.

Motorists are advised to check VDOT’s websites for specific details regarding these long-term projects as well as other potential changes due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
