Highway work is scheduled across the Lynchburg District from July 7 to July 13, 2025. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that road, lane, and structure closures may occur due to ongoing maintenance and construction activities. However, these plans could be affected by weather conditions or other unforeseen issues.
District-wide efforts will include bridge and guardrail maintenance, cutting of brush and tree limbs, pothole repairs, surface treatments, paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.
In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Road) will be closed for bridge rehabilitation between Guinea Road and River Road. This project is expected to be completed by mid-July 2025.
Nelson County will see a bridge replacement on Route 653 (Wilson Road), where the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad remains closed. The reopening is anticipated in November 2025.
