The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released its traffic alert for the Hampton Roads District, covering March 9-15, 2025. This update outlines various road and lane closures across major interstates, ramps, bridges, and tunnels in the region.

For the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64, there will be single-lane closures eastbound on March 4 and westbound on March 3, 5-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Meanwhile, the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 will experience alternating single-lane closures northbound on March 11 and 13, and southbound on March 10 and 12 during nighttime hours.

The James River Bridge will undergo a full weekend closure northbound from March 7 at 9 p.m. through March 10 at 5 a.m., with additional mobile single-lane closures planned for March 10. The High Rise Bridge westbound will have a single-lane closure on March 9 overnight.

On I-264’s Berkley Bridge, mobile alternating single-lane closures are scheduled for both directions between March 12-13 from evening to early morning hours. Maintenance schedules for the Elizabeth River Tunnels can be accessed online.

In James City County along I-64 Gap Segment C Widening project area, expect alternating single-lane closures both eastbound and westbound throughout the week of March 9-15 during night hours.

Additional lane adjustments include long-term traffic shifts related to projects like the HRBT Expansion Project and HREL Hampton projects. The Norfolk Reversible Express Lanes will see full directional closures multiple times within this period.

Specific sections of I-64 in Chesapeake also face brief stoppages due to utility work by Dominion Energy over the weekend of March 15-16. On I-264 in Virginia Beach, certain ramps will be closed overnight between March 9-13.

Travelers are advised to plan their routes accordingly by checking VDOT resources such as their website or smartphone app for real-time updates.
