A section of Thompson Avenue at its intersection with Route 30 (King William Avenue) in the Town of West Point is scheduled to close on Monday, March 9. The closure will allow Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews to carry out concrete repairs near the Route 30 intersection.
According to VDOT, “Route 30 will remain open during the work.” Through traffic on Thompson Avenue will be detoured via Mattaponi Avenue and E. Magnolia Avenue while repairs are underway. Message boards will be posted to notify travelers about the closure and detour.
Work is expected to finish by Friday, March 13, depending on weather conditions.
VDOT encourages motorists to use available resources for updated information: “Motorists can find updated information on lane closures, work zones, traffic and other incidents on 511Virginia.” Drivers can download the free mobile 511Virginia app for Apple and Android devices or visit 511.vdot.virginia.gov. The service is also accessible by calling 511 from any phone within Virginia.
The Virginia Department of Transportation manages one of the largest state highway systems in the country, maintaining tens of thousands of lane-miles across Virginia and overseeing road construction and maintenance projects statewide through its headquarters in Richmond (official website). The agency also provides services such as highway maintenance, traffic management—including systems like Virginia 511—and oversees land-use permits along state routes (official website).
