Starting next week, temporary traffic signals will be operational at the intersection of Route 106 (Emmaus Church Road) and Interstate 64. This development is part of the I-64 Gap Segment A Widening project in New Kent County.

Shirley Contracting Company, the design-build contractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), is undertaking the replacement of the bridge superstructure on Emmaus Church Road over I-64. To facilitate this phased bridge replacement, two temporary traffic signals have been installed at the eastbound and westbound intersections of I-64 and Emmaus Church Road. These coordinated signals will enable continuous bidirectional single-lane traffic across the bridge. The project completion is targeted for spring 2027.

The new traffic pattern will be active around-the-clock for vehicles approaching the work zone. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly due to potential increased travel times when passing through this area.
