Starting June 2, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement a temporary reduced speed limit within the Wythe Creek Road Widening Project work zone. This measure aims to enhance safety during construction in Hampton and Poquoson.

The speed limit on Wythe Creek Road, also known as Route 172, will be decreased to 25 mph in both directions across a nearly two-mile stretch. The affected area extends from Commander Shepard Boulevard in Hampton to Huntlandia Way in Poquoson. Additional signage will be installed to inform drivers of the new speed limits.

Motorists are encouraged to adhere to the posted speed limits, remain alert for traffic shifts and temporary lane closures with flagging operations, and avoid distractions. These precautions are intended to ensure the safety of all road users and construction crews working close to traffic.
