A section of Route 638, known as Templeton Road, in Prince George County is closed to through traffic. The closure affects the area between Route 35 (Lansing Road) and Route 35 (Courtland Road). This decision comes after flooding on July 15 caused damage that requires assessment and repair by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Motorists are advised to follow a detour route. For northbound travelers, the detour involves turning left onto Route 631 (Lansing Road), then right onto Route 604 (Halifax Road), followed by right turns onto Route 62 (Shands Road) and Route 605 (Spain Drive), before heading south on Route 35 (Courtland Road) back to Templeton Road.
Southbound drivers should travel north on Route 35 (Courtland Road), make a left onto Route 605 (Spain Drive), another left onto Route 621 (Shands Road), followed by left turns onto Route 604 (Halifax Road) and Route 631 (Lansing Road), before traveling east to Templeton Road.
