William & Mary men’s golf finished the Colonial Athletic Association Championships with a record-setting performance on April 28. Freshman Talon Dingledine led the team, securing second place individually at the event held at the Cotton Dike Course at Dataw Island Club.

The team’s final round score of 5-under-par 283 marked its best ever at the CAA Championships, surpassing its previous mark from 2003. William & Mary ended the tournament in sixth place overall with a total score of five-over-par 869.

Dingledine matched the best single-round total for a William & Mary player at the CAA Championships by shooting a six-under-par 66. His three-round total was nine-under-par 207, making him only the fifth player from William & Mary to finish first or second in this tournament’s history. He also became one of just five Tribe players to finish under par at this event.

Graduate student Matthew Monastero shot his best round of the championships with a one-under-par 71 and tied for thirty-first place overall. Junior Preston Burton placed twenty-ninth, while freshman Eli Felty and Monastero both finished tied for thirty-first. Sophomore Grady Williams rounded out William & Mary’s lineup, finishing thirty-seventh but leading his team with twelve birdies across three days.

UNC Wilmington won both team and individual honors, setting league records for lowest aggregate score and margin of victory. The Seahawks’ James Rico posted a conference-record fourteen-under-par over three rounds to win by five shots ahead of Dingledine.

William & Mary will now wait to learn if it will be selected for postseason play next week.
