Tahj Brown won the men’s 110-meter hurdles final at the Virginia Challenge on April 18, setting a new Liberty University freshman record with a time of 13.87 seconds. The meet took place at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, where several other Liberty athletes also delivered strong performances.
Brown’s achievement broke the previous freshman record of 13.93 seconds set by Jovaine Atkinson in 2017. With his performance, Brown became only the third athlete from Liberty to run under fourteen seconds in this event and now ranks third all-time in program history.
Christian Hicks finished as runner-up in the men’s discus with a personal-best throw of 194 feet, seven inches, moving him up to fourth on Liberty’s all-time list for that event. Other notable results included Beau Backes placing sixth and Trevor Veenstra eighth in discus, while Reagan Wise was second in pole vault after clearing sixteen feet, five and a half inches.
On the women’s side, Alivia Rivera-Norman placed third overall and won her heat in the women’s 100 hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.76 seconds—good for sixth all-time at Liberty. In the invitational women’s 200 meters, Iyana Sherard ran fifth-fastest ever for Liberty with a time of 23.74 seconds while Mahogany Mobley posted a personal best as well.
The next events for Liberty will be participation at both the Penn Relays from April 23-25 and sending athletes to compete at the Charlotte Invitational on April 24-25.
