The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has initiated a media campaign targeting Northern Virginia, aiming to persuade Congress to make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent. This effort includes radio and digital advertisements, focusing on the importance and urgency of the Main Street Tax Certainty Act.

NFIB State Director Julia Hammond expressed the concerns of small business owners, emphasizing the need for legislative action. "Our small business members in Northern Virginia and throughout the commonwealth are facing a massive increase in 2025 unless Congress makes the Small Business Deduction permanent," she stated. Hammond also noted optimism about the introduction of the bipartisan Main Street Tax Certainty Act in both chambers of Congress, expressing hope that it will be passed.

The 20% Small Business Deduction, also known as Section 199A, is a critical component for small enterprises structured as pass-throughs, allowing them to deduct up to 20% of qualified business income. Without congressional intervention, this deduction is set to expire in 2025.

NFIB President Brad Close has also contributed to the conversation by writing an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal. In his piece, he highlighted the deduction's significance for small businesses across the nation.
