Contractor crews working with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) on the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Interchange Improvements Project will implement daily single-lane closures on Route 58 west in Suffolk. These closures will reduce travel lanes from three to two between 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. the following day, starting as early as March 3. To ease congestion, the westbound closure will reopen each day for the afternoon rush period from 3-7 p.m.

The closures extend just west of the weigh station to the Route 58 median crossover at the SPSA entrance on Bob Foeller Drive. Existing eastbound daily single-lane closures continue between 9 a.m. and 5 a.m. Additional temporary lane closures or brief stoppages may occur in both directions during low traffic periods when necessary.

Later in the project, long-term single-lane closures are expected as construction activities move toward the median and western lanes. All work is weather- and schedule-dependent, meaning this timetable may change.

The SPSA Interchange Improvements Project aims to enhance safety on Route 58 by constructing a dedicated flyover ramp for eastbound traffic entering the SPSA entrance at Bob Foeller Drive. This will close the current at-grade median crossing and eliminate crossover traffic conflicts with westbound vehicles. The flyover ramp will merge with the existing westbound entrance to the SPSA facility from Route 58.
