The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is set to host a public hearing on February 26 regarding proposed intersection improvements along Route 28 in Manassas Park. The project, based on the Centreville Road (Route 28) STARS Study recommendations, seeks to enhance safety, operations, and pedestrian accessibility.

The plan includes converting intersections at Maplewood Drive and Browns Lane into restricted crossing u-turns (RCUTs). Additionally, a median u-turn (MUT) will be built between Birch Street and Spruce Street. Other enhancements involve extending the southbound left-turn/u-turn lane at Blooms Quarry Lane, installing concrete medians between Spruce Street and Browns Lane, reconstructing medians between Browns Lane and Manassas Drive, adding sidewalks with grass buffers along specific sections of Route 28, constructing curb ramps, striping new crosswalks, and improving drainage and stormwater management.

Community members are invited to attend the meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Manassas Park City Hall Governing Body Chambers. A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be live-streamed starting at 6:30 p.m.

VDOT emphasizes that this meeting will not cover Prince William County’s recently canceled Route 28 Bypass Project or any future improvements outside the current project limits.

Feedback can be provided during the meeting or through March 10 via an online comment form on the project webpage. Comments can also be emailed to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov with "Route 28 Innovative Intersections" in the subject line or mailed to Ms. Hong Ha at VDOT's Fairfax office.
