Starting February 3, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will initiate long-term traffic shifts on I-64 east and I-464 north in Chesapeake. This change is part of the I-64/I-464 Interchange Exit 291A Ramp Improvements Project.

Traffic heading east on I-64, including those using the Express Lane, will be redirected left towards the median between Battlefield Boulevard (exit 292) and the I-464 interchange (exit 291A). The shift will continue along the on-ramp to I-464 north. Similarly, northbound traffic on I-464 will move toward the median from the I-64 west on-ramp, ending before Military Highway (exit 2). These lane adjustments are expected to remain until summer 2026.

To facilitate these changes, the ramp from I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A) will be closed nightly from February 10 to February 17, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., with detours clearly marked.

Drivers are advised to heed all posted signs within the construction zone. Detour signage and electronic message boards will provide closure updates. The construction schedule may vary due to weather or other factors.

VDOT recommends using their free resources like VDOT's free 511 Virginia traffic tools or Waze GPS app for real-time road conditions. Their website, 511Virginia.org, and mobile app offer comprehensive information about ongoing construction, traffic incidents, congestion levels, as well as access to traffic cameras and weather impacts.
