A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia on November 14, 2024. The request was made by Old Dominion News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request specifically asked for a list of all university employees' compensation, including those working in community colleges. The desired information includes each employee's name, title, university name, employment type, and compensation amount.
As representatives from Old Dominion News, we emphasized the importance of access to public records in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
