Do you know why it’s good to walk and stay moving while on a plane?
Do you know why it’s good to walk and stay moving while on a plane? Cabin pressure can increase your risk of Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT). This is when a blood clot forms in the arm or leg. If loosened, it can travel to your lung, causing a pulmonary embolism (PE).
Important! Travel may be why we’re familiar with DVT, but it’s not the most common setting for DVT. After hospitalization or surgery, a patient is at increased risk for DVT. Sentara team members are vigilant about preventing it, but patients should watch for:
Swelling of your leg or arm
Pain or tenderness not caused by an injury
Skin that is warm to the touch, with swelling or pain
Redness of the skin, with swelling or painKeep moving, and follow your doctor’s recommendations to help avoid DVT!
