Green, Tsakounis Deal In Pitching Duel Loss

8

Halifax County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 4

Despite an incredible performance on the mound from two arms, William & Mary fell in a 1-0 pitcher's duel to Rutgers Friday afternoon at Plumeri Park. Casey Green and Zach Tsakounis combined to allow just one run on six hits and two walks, but the offense could not provide support in the losing effort.

The Tribe saw a great start from Green who surrendered just one run over a season-high five innings of work. Green retired the last eight men he faced and tossed just 63 pitches allowing zero walks in his second start of the year.

Tsakounis would follow, allowing just one hit over 4.0 clean innings, also a season-high for the Tribe lefty. The senior retired 12 of 15 batters faced and had three strikeouts, tossing just 53 pitches in the four innings of relief work.

After a scoreless first frame, three straight Rutgers singles would begin a rally for the Scarlet Knights, but a pick-off by Green and double play via a Matt Thomas outfield assist would hold Rutgers to a 1-0 lead. The teams would trade scoreless innings the rest of the way as the Scarlet Knights held for a 1-0 win.

The Tribe threatened in the sixth as David Hogarth led off with a double, one of his two hits in the game, but he would be stranded at second. Hogarth would again reach scoring position in the eighth, but be left on the bases. Ben Williamson had his fifth double of the season in the game, while Mark Trotta and Luca Danos also recorded hits.

Up Next: The Tribe's round robin weekend continues tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch with Lafayette at Plumeri Park.
