Ferrum College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 23
Ferrum College's women's wrestling team competed today at the Robert Horton Memorial Tournament, hosted by Emmanuel College's Shaw Athletic Center.
Senior Katrina Anderson posted a third-place finish in a field of 12 wrestlers in the 130-pound weight class. Anderson opened the tournament with a loss by fall to Riley Dalrymple from Life University, then bounded back with a 4-0 march through the consolation bracket to capture third place.
Anderson's run started with a 46-second pin over Evelyne Vazquez of host Emmanuel, and a 12-2 technical fall over #4 seed Monica Garcia of King University. She then eked out a high-scoring 14-13 win over #3 seed Ariana Wolkerstorfer or Greensboro College.
In her third-place match, Anderson decked Greensboro's Isabella Ruiz in 5:32.With today's results, Anderson improves to 11-6 on the mat this season, including four pins.
Also on the mat today for the Panthers were Ryann Tyree at 155 pounds and Gabby Mendoza at 170 pounds. Both wrestlers went 0-2 on the day.
Coach Logan Meister's team will be back in action Saturday, February 5, with a pair of dual meets at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The Panthers will take the mat against host Delaware Valley at noon, then square off with Elmira (N.Y.) College at 1:00 p.m.
