Highway maintenance and construction work is scheduled to take place across the Staunton District from November 17 to 21, 2025. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that these activities may affect traffic in the region, which covers 11 counties in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands.

The planned projects include lane closures, shoulder repairs, bridge inspections, utility work, paving operations, tree and debris removal, pipe replacement, and other routine maintenance tasks on both interstate highways and primary and secondary roads. Specific locations affected include segments of Interstate 64 and Interstate 81 in Alleghany, Augusta, Rockbridge, Frederick, Shenandoah, Warren, and Rockingham counties. There will also be various roadwork activities on Routes 7, 11, 18, 33, 37, 42, 50, 60, 154, 211, 253, 262, 269, and others throughout the district.

Work schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions or material availability. VDOT urges drivers to use caution when traveling through work zones and remain alert for changes in traffic patterns or lane closures.

For real-time updates on traffic alerts and travel information within Virginia’s transportation network—including incidents related to ongoing construction—drivers can dial 511 or visit the 511 Virginia website. A mobile app is also available for travelers seeking updated information.
