The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled highway work that may impact traffic in the Staunton transportation district from March 10 to March 14, 2025. This district covers eleven counties ranging from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley.
Motorists should be prepared for possible delays due to ongoing construction and maintenance activities. VDOT advises drivers to remain vigilant for slow-moving vehicles during mowing operations and stay alert for changes in traffic patterns within work zones.
In Alleghany County, tree trimming on Interstate 64 will involve mobile right shoulder closures westbound between mile markers 0 and 41 from Monday through Friday. Additionally, bridge inspections will cause alternating lane closures eastbound and westbound between mile markers 1 and 3 on Thursday and Friday.
Various roadworks are planned across primary and secondary roads in other counties such as Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke, and Warren. These include flagger-controlled traffic for tasks like brush cutting, pipe cleaning, utility work, bridge inspections, pavement patching, shoulder repairs, and more.
In Augusta County specifically on Interstate 81 at exit 221 southbound starting March 10th there will be ramp lane closures related to overpass bridge work continuing through summer of next year. The I-81 widening project also involves overnight left lane closures southbound between mile markers 221-227 until March end while maintaining a speed limit of sixty miles per hour throughout this zone.
Vegetation management is anticipated across various routes within the district with VDOT urging motorists to exercise caution when navigating these areas.
