The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on May 14 that a section of Route 930 (Dogwood Drive) will be closed to through traffic starting Tuesday, May 26, as work begins on safety improvements at the intersection with Route 58 in Henry County.
The project aims to enhance safety and traffic flow by widening Dogwood Drive to add a new left turn lane onto eastbound Route 58 and constructing a new right turn lane from westbound Route 58 onto Dogwood Drive. These changes are intended to improve access and reduce congestion at this busy intersection.
During construction, the affected portion of Dogwood Drive will be closed from its intersection with Route 58 to Laurel Drive (Route 932) over the summer months. A signed detour will guide motorists around the closure using Lakewood Trail (Route 1604) and Laurel Drive. Residents along Dogwood Drive will continue to have access to their homes during this period. Additionally, the right lane of westbound Route 58 between Honeycutt Drive and Dogwood Drive will also be closed while work is underway.
To minimize disruption when school resumes, daytime lane closures related to this project will only occur between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., accommodating school-related traffic needs. Motorists are advised by transportation officials to pay attention to posted signs and electronic message boards throughout construction.
The estimated completion date for these improvements is September 4, weather permitting. The Virginia Department of Transportation manages one of the nation’s largest state highway systems and oversees planning, construction, maintenance, as well as services such as highway maintenance and traffic management across Virginia’s roads according to the official website.
