A section of Route 686, known as Fort Hill Dirt Road, in Brunswick County has been closed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to allow for pipe replacement work. The closure affects the stretch between Route 46 (Christanna Highway) and Route 623 (Browns Creek Road). According to VDOT, the road will remain closed until Tuesday, September 30.

To assist motorists during the closure, VDOT has outlined detour routes. Eastbound drivers on Fort Hill Dirt Road should turn right onto Route 46, then right onto Route 611 (Dry Bread Road), followed by a right onto Route 623 before rejoining Fort Hill Dirt Road. Westbound drivers are advised to turn left onto Route 623, then left onto Route 611, and another left onto Route 46 before returning to Fort Hill Dirt Road.

For questions regarding the project, residents can contact VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
