The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled road closures and traffic shifts in the Hampton Roads area for the week of June 15-21, 2025. The planned closures affect interstates, ramps, bridges, tunnels, and primary roads throughout the region.

The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64 will have a single-lane closure eastbound on June 18 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Meanwhile, at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664, there will be alternating mobile single-lane closures northbound on June 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as southbound lane closures from June 16-17 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

At the James River Bridge on Route 17, alternating mobile single-lane closures are set for both directions from June 18-19 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., with additional single-lane closures occurring from June 16-20 southbound and June 19-20 northbound during daytime hours.

The George P. Coleman Bridge will also see alternating mobile single-lane closures in both directions on June 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

VDOT advises travelers to check the Elizabeth River Tunnels website for maintenance schedules concerning Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58), and MLK Expressway (Route164).

Additional traffic updates include full ramp closures at various points along I-64 in Chesapeake, James City County, Norfolk, Newport News/Hampton areas due to ongoing projects such as HREL projects and others detailed by VDOT.
