Sandy Point Lane (Route 7983) in Fairfax will be closed at Route 29 for five days, starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, November 17, and ending at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 21. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the closure is needed for intersection reconstruction as part of the ongoing Route 29 widening project.

During this period, traffic will be detoured using Route 29, Hampton Forest Way (Route 7885), Harvest Place (Route 7887), and Rockpointe Drive (Route 7982) to return to Sandy Point Lane. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detour signs.

The Route 29 widening project involves expanding a section of the road between Union Mill Road and Buckleys Gate Drive from four lanes to six lanes. The work also includes correcting vertical alignment for better sight distance, adding shared-use paths on both sides of Route 29, and connecting pedestrian and bicycle trails at the Fairfax County Parkway/West Ox Road interchange. The project aims to improve safety, traffic flow, and accessibility for both bicyclists and pedestrians. Completion is expected in spring 2026.

“Sandy Point Lane (Route 7983) will be continuously closed at Route 29 from 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, for intersection reconstruction as part of the Route 29 widening project,” according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
