Sage Road (Route 724) in Fauquier County will be closed to through traffic at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing, located about 0.1 mile south of Route 55 (John Marshall Highway), starting Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. The closure is expected to last until Friday morning while emergency repairs are carried out by railroad crews.

To reach destinations east of the closure, drivers should continue north on Route 729 (Carrington Road), then turn left onto Route 55 (John Marshall Highway), which leads back to Sage Road. For westbound travel, motorists are advised to follow the detour route in reverse.

During this period, drivers are instructed to follow posted detour signs and anticipate possible delays. Caution is recommended near the work zone, and travelers should allow for extra time. All repair work depends on weather conditions.

Local updates about conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District are available on X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page.

“Motorists should follow posted detour signs and expect delays in the area. Motorists are advised to use caution near the work zone and allow extra travel time. All work is weather permitting.”
