FREDERICKSBURG – The eastbound lanes of Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) in Spotsylvania County will be closed overnight for road construction from Sunday, July 27 to early Monday, July 28. The closure will occur between Route 1 and Interstate 95.
The closure is scheduled from 11 p.m. on Sunday until 4 a.m. on Monday. In case of inclement weather, the closure will be rescheduled to take place from 11 p.m. on Monday, July 28 to 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29.
During this period, westbound Mudd Tavern Road will remain open between I-95 and Route 1. Traffic heading eastbound will be detoured via Route 1 northbound or southbound to access I-95 through interchanges at exit 110 (Ladysmith) in Caroline County or exit 118 (Thornburg) in Spotsylvania.
This closure is part of final construction activities aimed at widening Mudd Tavern Road to four lanes between Route 1 and I-95. Approximately 16,000 vehicles use this section daily.
The project includes the construction of a new secondary road parallel to Mudd Tavern Road, Route 2092, and a connector secondary road, Route 2080. While the four-lane section is open along with new sidewalks and a shared-use path, Routes 2080 and 2092 remain closed.
Two projects are being executed under one contract with contractor Allan Myers: a $25.7 million project for widening Route 606 and a $9.1 million project for building Routes 2080 and Route 2092.
These projects are conducted in partnership between Spotsylvania County and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Funding for the Mudd Tavern Road widening project was partially secured through Virginia’s SMART SCALE program with additional contributions from county investment and VDOT’s revenue-sharing program.
