The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 23 that a section of Route 730 (Duncans Chapel Road) in Floyd County will be closed at its intersection with Route 766 (Easy Drive) beginning Monday, April 6, to allow for the replacement of a box culvert over Big Indian Creek. The closure will restrict eastbound access from this intersection, while westbound travel will remain available.
Electronic message boards and posted detour signs will direct drivers around the affected area. Residents living on either side of the closure will still have access to their homes, but through traffic must use alternate routes or follow the signed detour. The department stated that traffic will not be able to cross the bridge during construction.
Work is expected to be completed by May 8, weather permitting.
