Construction is set to commence shortly on the extension of the Route 9 ramp to eastbound Route 7 in Clarkes Gap, announced the Virginia Department of Transportation. The project is designed to enhance safety and traffic flow by extending the acceleration lane on eastbound Route 7 by approximately 500 feet. It will also involve repaving and restriping about a third of a mile of eastbound Route 7 lanes to facilitate the extended ramp.
Weekday and overnight lane closures outside of peak travel hours will be implemented along eastbound Route 7, between the Route 9 overpass and White Gate Place, as construction progresses. The project, with a budget of $3.1 million, is federally and state-funded, and is expected to reach completion by mid-2026.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution when traveling through active work zones, remain alert to new traffic patterns, and minimize distractions. Additional traffic updates and information about work zones can be accessed online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, through the 511Virginia app, or by calling 511 within Virginia.
