A new dedicated right turn lane is now open on Route 3 (Main Street) to Route 688 (James B. Jones Memorial Highway) within Kilmarnock’s town limits in Lancaster County. The project, completed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor, aims to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve mobility.

The $1.1 million construction was designed to accommodate truck traffic, as through trucks are required to use Route 688 due to a restriction on a portion of Route 3 in Kilmarnock. Graham Concrete, LLC of Richmond served as the project’s contractor.

According to VDOT’s recent traffic count, approximately 11,000 vehicles pass through this intersection daily. Lancaster County submitted an application for this project under Virginia’s SMART SCALE transportation funding program.
