Crews with Norfolk Southern Railroad have closed the intersection at Route 28 (Catlett Road) and Route 616 (Casanova/Bristersburg Road) to conduct maintenance on the railroad crossing in Fauquier County. The closure was initiated this morning and has led to the implementation of a detour for local traffic.

Drivers traveling on Casanova Road who need to head south on Route 28 should proceed north. They should then take Bristersburg Road eastward and eventually follow Route 642 (Old Calverton Road) south to resume travel on Route 28. Those moving northbound on Route 28 are advised to start the detour to the south of the intersection by taking Old Calverton Road east and then navigating through Bristersburg Road northward back to Route 28. Similarly, southbound drivers on Route 28 need to begin the detour north of the intersection, venturing east along Bristersburg Road to connect with Old Calverton Road southward, leading back to Route 28.

The intersection is scheduled to reopen by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29. Updates concerning road conditions in the VDOT’s Culpeper District are available on their social media, including their X and Facebook pages.

Additionally, current traffic situations, access to VDOT’s statewide network of traffic cameras, and real-time travel data are accessible via the 511Virginia website. This information can also be retrieved through the free VDOT 511 mobile application or by dialing 511 from any phone within Virginia.
