The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that crews will undertake a pipe replacement project on Route 198, also known as Glenns Road, at Zion Branch in Gloucester County. This project requires the road to be closed to traffic between Route 17 and Route 610 (Salem Church Road) beginning Monday, July 21. The closure is expected to last for approximately three weeks.
The work involves replacing two drainage pipes under Glenns Road. These pipes are each nearly the same length as a school bus, measuring 37 feet long. Alongside this pipe replacement, VDOT workers will carry out ditch maintenance over a one-mile section of Glenns Road near the construction area.
Motorists will be directed along a recommended detour route using signage. The detour will take drivers via Route 17 and Route 601 (Pampa Road). An online map detailing this detour route is available for viewing.
Drivers are advised to choose alternate routes based on their destinations during the closure period. However, access to residential driveways along Glenns Road will remain open throughout the duration of the work.
This construction is contingent upon weather conditions and is anticipated to be completed by Friday, August 8.
