The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the closure of the median crossover at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 610 (Woods Cross Road/Davenport Road) in Gloucester County. This closure is part of a safety measure to protect drivers and workers during ongoing construction work.

During this period, drivers on Woods Cross Road or Davenport Road are required to turn right and make U-turns from existing Route 17 crossovers near the intersection to continue their journey. Additionally, travelers on Route 17 are restricted from making left turns onto Woods Cross Road and Davenport Road.

VDOT is closely monitoring traffic conditions within the work zones. Adjustments to traffic control devices such as signs, pavement markings, barrels, and lane configurations will be made as necessary to ensure safety.

The construction project, valued at $5.1 million, commenced in March 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by December 2025. Upon completion, drivers on Woods Cross Road or Davenport Road wishing to turn left onto Route 17 will initially make a right turn followed by a U-turn at new designated locations approximately 700 feet from the current intersection. Meanwhile, Route 17 travelers will be permitted to make left turns onto Woods Cross Road or Davenport Road according to the final traffic pattern.
